   1. Call to order:

      Chair Phil Varner calls the meeting to order.

      Robert Watkins calls role.

   2. Approval of the agenda:

      Dede Smith moves to approve the agenda. Kay Slaughter seconds motion. Motion passes
      unanimously.

   3. Public Comment:

      The HRC receives no public comment.

   4. Engagement of the Descendant Community for Court Square/Slave Auction Block site:

      Smith expresses appreciation for input received on walking tour text. She acknowledges
      that committee will need to cite sources for all information.

      Varner reminds committee that goal of meeting discussion is to generate a public draft.
      HRC will need to make sure there’s robust editing, perhaps with a professional copy
      editor.

      Varner shares that he’d rather circulate text in word document instead of inserting it into
      map through graphic designer.

      Subcommittee reviews list of sites and then begins to review text for each item.

   5. Staff Updates:




HRC August 12, 2022 Meeting Notes
      Staff announces that the Board of Architectural Review will review plans for a new
      Albemarle County District Courthouse at the August meeting.

   6. Coordinate Agenda for September HRC Meeting:

      HRC will retain similar agenda for September meeting.
