ZOOM MEETING PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD September 15, 2022 Present: Ned Michie, Shawn Strubbe, Hosea Mitchell, Jennifer McKeever, Jennifer Slack Absent: Jeffrey Fracher and Anne Hemenway Staff: Dana Kasler, Caitlin Marcotte, Shane Ferrara, and Riaan Anthony Public Matters No public matters Adoption of Minutes • Correction to the spelling of the “Kneedler Bridge” • Minutes approved • Administrative items: • Update list of terms for board members • Current applications- all 5 applicants still interested and have been contacted regarding an October interview date. • Ned Michie suggests having staff pick 4 out of the 5 applicants and invite them to our next meeting. • Dana Kasler will set up a meeting sign up to view the applicants with Ned and Shawn. • Reschedule the scheduling a retreat item for January when we have the entire group! Action Items: • N/A Information Items: • Caitlin Marcotte- Adaptive Manager • Shane Ferrara- Athletics Manager • Summer Program update- (Dana Kasler) 5-page summer program update sent to board members! • Smith is open regular hours but still need staffing levels to improve. Skatepark lighting is in and we will have a soft opening on the 24th of September. Will have a more traditional opening in October. • (Dana Kasler) Staffing numbers are low in aquatics however missing red cross instructors. (Riaan Anthony) There are 6 vacant FTE positions in parks. • Contracted a contactor for mowing for the schools to assist with meeting the schools opening needs. • CIP update- Riaan Anthony shares a slideshow of all items that are complete, out to bid and/or in progress. Questions: • Jennifer Slack asked if it was possible to consider opening Smith recreation pool closer to 10a for families. • Ned Michie asked about the Kneedler Bridge progress. Riaan answers that we do not have the funding. • Ned Michie asks can the board get an email of submitted CIP project requests for parks prior to our next meeting. • Ned would like to have a goal of coming up with the advisory boards top 10 priorities and have some input. Chairman’s Matters • Can we possibly meet in person? Board Matters • Jennifer mentioned calling over to Carver and getting her needs met over a holiday weekend due to the water not working at a splash pad! Directors Matters • New software that gives us a local number and has an app for both apple and android. Allowing users to look at the status of any program or facility. Coming out in October.
