The meeting was called to order at 12:07 p.m.

Public Comment:
None

Approval of Meeting Minutes:
The March meeting minutes were approved as submitted.

Members’ Report:
Mr. Signer shared that the FY2020 budget was passed by City Council with minimal cuts to departments. He
also shared that new City Manager, Dr. Tarron Richardson, starts on May 9th. Ms. Gough asked if there will be
any community meet and greets scheduled. Mr. Signer believes there will be. Ms. Gough suggested inviting
Dr. Richardson to an upcoming board meeting. All were in favor. She will e-mail him toward the end of May.

Mr. Perry shared that the recent regional Summit on Housing and Homelessness was excellent. The summit
was presented by the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition on Homelessness (TJACH) and the Piedmont Housing
Alliance.

Chair’s Report:
Ms. Gough reminded board members that the May and June meetings have been combined into one meeting and
will be held on Monday, June 10th.

Ms. Gough expressed interest in inviting new staff to board meetings. All members were in favor and opted to
do this once a year.

Director’s Report:
Quarterly Data Report from VDSS: Ms. Kuknyo shared that the Virginia Department of Social Services will be
publishing quarterly performance indicator reports for all local departments of social services on the public
VDSS web site beginning this summer. There will also be an internal dashboard for each agency that will be
more comprehensive than the public site. Ms. Kuknyo and board chair, Christine Gough, recently attended a
meeting in Lynchburg to preview the dashboards. Ms. Kuknyo also shared that the administrative committee of

the Virginia League of Social Services Executives has asked VDSS to create their own performance dashboard
to denote system outages that affect an agency’s ability to meet processing targets.

Ms. Kuknyo reviewed the department’s internal dashboard with the board.



The next board meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2019 in the City Hall Basement Conference
Room.
